Getting crafty with it... Made a paracord survival bracelet to rock during my races since I lost my pink and purple "livestrong" bands. As usual, pink in memory of my grandma and purple in memory of my sister. Throwback Thursday to just a couple months ago at Ragnar Napa Valley,where I ran as a part of an awesome Ragnar ultra team. The closest I got to training for what I'm going to attempt this weekend. Racing the sunset... Had a later start than I wanted but I was able to complete the 15 mile/1500 ft elevation gain Red Rock Canyon scenic loop. Much Needed Updates
Yeah... I've completely failed on keeping this blog updated.
I'm sitting in a Starbucks right now waiting for my customary pre race espresso to do it's work before I run the LA marathon charity relay in a few hours.
Since my last update, I've completed a few races:
- Dana Point Turkey Trot
I did the 10K/5K combo where you run the 10K and then run the 5K about an hour later. I kept a low carb diet up until a few days before the race. Due to the short distance and the fact that I would be running 2 races back to back I knew I would be dependent on my glycogen stores. It worked out as I PR'd both races, but I also ended up developing achilles tendinitis in the process.
- New Years Race Half Marathon (HM #3)
I set some lofty plans for 2014. I already signed up for the New Year's Race half, and after Long Beach, I decided I wanted to comeplete the Beach Cities Challenge (Long Beach, Surf City, and OC). Additionally, I wanted to complete the Best of LA challenge (New Year's Race & Hollywood Half). All these races would take place within the first 5 months of the yea and to top it all off I chose to truly earn my Beach Cities challenge by signing up for the OC full marathon. My first full. It worked out that the other races leading up to OC fell on days my schedule would have me running 12 miles.
But first, was New Year's Race half marathon. This was my first half that I did last year. I told myself that I would just take it easy. The course was a lot hillier than last year and people were already complaining last year. Not me though, thanks to constant training on Spy Glass hill. I did run the race alot harder than I probably should have beating last year's time by around 5 minutes. My achilles was still an issue and I definitely felt it during the last couple of miles. In the end I was ok.
- Surf City Half Marathon (HM #4)
I signed up for Surf City ahead of time with the notion that I would really take it easy and just finish to complete 2 of 3 races for the Beach Cities challenge. Luckily, I was able to be an official pacer through my run club. This was particularly helpful as I paced a much slower time than my pace which forced me to the run the race at a ridiculously easy pace. Felt great to get through 13 miles and feel like I didn't even run.
